Since 2000 nearly 1 million Americans have died from overdosing on a drug
In the last twelve months drug overdoses killed 107,000 Americans
The death toll is higher than the peak yearly death totals from H.I.V., car crashes or gun deaths
Nine out of ten adolescents that can benefit from substance use treatment don’t get any at all as very few resources are available to help them
Families don’t have the resources they need to help their families with the disease of addiction
Teens struggle to fit in and stay sober in a society that says gateway drugs are natural medicine
Once teens become addicted, they hide it from their families until their lives have been seriously impacted
In 2017, 34.2 million Americans committed DUI, 21.4 million under the influence of alcohol and 12.8 million under the influence of drugs
More than 90% of people who have an addiction started to drink alcohol or use drugs before they were 18 years old
Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 are most likely to use addictive drugs
More teens in the United States are overdosing on drugs than ever before—and more of them are dying as a result
Major reasons for the increase:
From 2012 to 2022, the Evan Fischer Foundation Memorial Fund has provided over 500 teens and young adults scholarships/grants for recovery from drug and alcohol addiction
An estimated 7.8% of all Americans need substance use disorder treatment, yet only 1.5% actually receive treatment
Drug abuse and addiction cost the United States over $700 billion annually in healthcare expenses, crime-related costs, and lost workplace productivity
About 20% of Americans who have depression or an anxiety disorder also have a substance use disorder
